RETROSPECTIVE: What you didn't see from Ellen's party

You're not going to see a whole lot more, but here're a couple reasonably appropriate and non-demeaning pics that surfaced from Feb. 14:

Kevin Reitz, winner!

He submitted a photo to the City Weekend Reader Photo contest and won two 100 RMB coupons to All-Star Bar and Grill. Awesome!

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: First outdoor session of the year!

I wish I had taken pictures. It was wonderful, that's all I'll say. And while I fear we're not quite done with winter just yet, all of us who attended Sunday's pickup at Dulwich were reminded of what real Ultimate -- on a full field in 50-degree weather -- is supposed to feel like. Can't wait for the spring season.

And now your caps power poll, as of games through last night:

1. Baby Girl
2. Chaitkin
3. Tao
4. Kevin
5. Sandy
6. Gareth
7. Nora
8. Matt
9. Joe
10. Jim

Check out the notation for some of the games played:

There's a triple rebuttal in there, above.

WEEK IN REVIEW: An epic week of partying yields no casualties, in a manner of speaking

A little dumber and worse for wear, but everything should be returning to normal over the weekend. Whew.

A recap of this past week:

Saturday: New Year's Eve! Winning drink: baijiu (thank you to me, with a nod to Matt).

Sunday: Party at Ellen's (Mardi Gras theme) where inappropriate things that will never be spoken of again went down. Winning drink: jungle juice (thanks Gareth).

Monday: Party at Jim's (James Bond theme), where people drank the host's water-deprived gin. Winning drink: martini (thanks Jim).

Tuesday: Party at Baby Girl's, Tao's, Alicia's and Candice's, de facto Ben's and Chaitkin's (College Games + Southern + Big Lebowski theme). Winning drink: White Russian (thanks Jeff), just barely edging out Yanjing/Tsingtao beer. Lots of caps played. The party moved to Candice's friend's place, which was mansion-like, and it got really, really weird. Gareth puked while dominating flip-cup. Sandy got piss drunk. Ellen got piss drunk. Jeff got piss drunk. Baby Girl, uh... moving on... Baby Girl's friends got piss drunk. Candice got piss drunk. Ben got so drunk he passed out on a bed and something or other. Shan was probably piss drunk, though I can't be certain. Jim wasn't very drunk, though he was dancing a lot as if he were. Betsy was so drunk she fellated a cactus arm (no, I'm just kidding... she did grind up against Matt Mueller though.) Chaitkin was okay too. But if the piss drunks were to sit on one side of a seesaw and the not-quite-piss-drunks sat on the other, the not-quite-piss-drunkards would get launched catapult-like into the piss-drunkards and a fight would ensue with broken glass bottles -- speaking of, Joe wasn't at Candice's! GAR! -- and there would have been casualties. Uh-huh.

Alicia, Matt and I wound down our night at The Den watching Manchester United beat AC Milan 3-2 in a thrilling game.

And now your PICTURES OF THE WEEK, from Tuesday night:

Big Brother club team meeting

Big Brother had a meeting tonight, attended by Jim, Joe, Jeff, Alicia, Gareth, Sandy, Baby Girl, Candice, Ellen, Mike Shyu, Mike Chaitkin and Triple H, with me on G-talk, Brian and Kevin there in spirit, and non-Frisbee players/non-Beijingers Ben, Jazz and Helen Shyu.

Jim and Gareth were selected as captains for the upcoming season. Congrats to both of them.

Players who would like to play for Big Brother need to commit to the team and in response Big Brother will commit to you. It was decided the team would not have cuts, though playing time, of course, is never guaranteed.

Big Brother will attend at least three tournaments as a team. Shanghai in early June is a definite. The other two will be voted on, but it likely will be Hong Kong in October and Manila in November. (Singapore in August and Jeju in May are also possibilities.)

All in all it was a productive night.

POSTSCRIPT: A couple pictures from the party Tuesday night:

That's bacon and grits in the pan there.

Thanks to Steph for cooking and Matt for bringing way too much bacon than any artery should be able to handle. We finally finished all the bacon the next night.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Shitstorm at Ellen's

Kevin Reitz and Jeff Orcutt both had gchat status messages of something along the lines of, "What the fuck happened last night?"

I'm pretty sure most of the photos from that night are unpublishable, but here are two of the tamer ones:

Photos by Steph Kwan

There's also a 20-minute video of body shots.

There are no pictures of Joe in his Spongebob tighty-whities (yellowies?).

Nor of Jim dressed (down) as the devil.

Or full-frontal nudity. (Images have been scraped from my brain.)

Happy New Year!

Year of the Tiger! Joy! If you'd been there you too would have, as Kevin here, bowed to the pyrotechnic god called Jubilee.

Unfortunately for Kevin, a bottle of red wine broke in his bag.

Parties follow today, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Details to come...

RIP: Frisbee inventor

HT: Russell Young.

By DOUG ALDEN, AP Sports Writer

SALT LAKE CITY – Walter Fredrick Morrison, the man credited with inventing the Frisbee, has died. He was 90.

Utah House Rep. Kay McIff, an attorney who represented Morrison in a royalties case, says Morrison died at his home in Monroe, Utah, on Tuesday. McIff is from Richfield, Morrison's original hometown.

"That simple little toy has permeated every continent in every country, as many homes have Frisbees as any other device ever invented," McIff said. "How would you get through your youth without learning to throw a Frisbee?"

RETROSPECTIVE: Year of the Ox

As we count down the days till Year of the Tiger (a much better animal than the ox), here's a picture from last Chinese New Year's, taken in front of Houhai.

And the video:

Jeff Orcutt speaking here.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Super Bowl

At Ellen's (who else?). Jeff, Boehner, Jim, Shan, etc., crashed at her place on Sunday night and then watched the Saints upset the Colts. Nothing of note happened. Nothing of note. By which I mean nothing that is appropriate to note.

WEEK IN REVIEW: In preparation for next week's Chinese New Year

It's almost that time again, to flip the other calendar, set off fireworks and drink till our livers scratch the blackboard of our nerves. Beijing Ultimate's got big plans. Until then, count down the days, friends.

PICTURES OF THE WEEK (belated... they were actually from two weeks ago, taken at the slideshow viewing at Jiggly-Wiggly):

Comment-that-makes-no-sense-out-of-context of the week:

P.S. re: Hsing-Hui's comment I don't think everyone attending a party at joe and my apartment needs to be put inside condoms and then slowly inserted into the house one lengthening stroke at a time...

I think that was what you were lewdly alluding to earlier.

RETROSPECTIVE: Char Lam

Beijing Ultimate recently lost an important member of its community and it embarrasses me to be reporting on it only now. (Don't fret, no one's died.) Charmian Lam, former treasurer of Beijing Ultimate Committee and leader of Big Brother, has moved back to Hong Kong. Two weeks ago she held a goodbye party at Purple Haze.

The following are from China Nationals 2009 and China Nationals 2008, respectively.

We'll miss you, Char, and hope you visit us sometime soon. And we'll be seeing ya.
