WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Pink Party, Jump, Jive, and Super Quiz, Oh My!

On Friday select members of the Beijing Ultimate community went to this bar and bought pints and then growlers and got drunk ... off beer! For the first time in a long time. Then it was off to Zahlen's for the Pink Party, which proved horrendously fun as always, and someone may or may not have closed Chocolate.

On Saturday, after pickup, Mike and Helen (and Emma!) Shyu (but mostly Mike and Helen) hosted their annual Jump, Jive and hey someone kill the Turkey Already Thanksgiving dinner (their seventh time doing it, actually). Mike gave a heartfelt speech about the meaning of family and then we dug into the meal, which was so big everyone had leftovers. (A few days later the Shyus hosted another mini-feast to get rid of their leftovers). Pictures below provided by the estimable Kevin Reitz:

And finally, to top off a wild weekend, Jim and I hosted the Image round at the Beijinger's Super Quiz at Hard Rock Cafe. The Beijinger's write-up of the event is here, and this is a live blog from Beijing Boyce. Here's Jim during the first round:

This is more or less how our round ended (at the 51-second mark, you'll recognize a certain clip that appeared last Halloween; answer at the bottom):

And because we were up first, we spent the rest of the quiz night getting drunk on Tiger (then Stella) beer. Here we were at the end (yes, Jim is wearing that):

Beijing Ultimate's first baby

Baby Shyu, as yet unnamed, crawled out of Helen Shyu's tummy -- we can only assume Alien-style -- around 10 p.m. on the 24th of December. Pictures will be available once the proud mommy and daddy give us permission to post.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Things to be thankful for

Mike Shyu gave a stirring speech at his Thanksgiving dinner Saturday, the sixth annual Jump, Jive and Someone Kill the Turkey Already, and if you weren't there it'll be hard for us to recreate the moment, because how does one capture a heartfelt sentiment, an expression of endearment in front of next-to-kin friends?

Reitz has more here.

WEEK IN REVIEW: Shhh... Beijing is going to Singapore

Don't spread the word just yet because 1) it's not official, and 2) we don't want Asia getting all atwitter.

But Singapore, August 8-9: expect to see us there. Especially as we're still the defending champions*.

GOOGLE GROUPS POST OF THE WEEK:

Sinapore !
by Lincoln Cheung:

Hey tournament enthusiasts,

I know we're still basking in the gong show that was last weekend in Shanghai. But im bored at work and did some research about Singapore !

So , the tournament is August 8th - 9th (in singapore), the last time Big Brother went as a team they won ! If they could do it , its probably pretty easy to go in there and dominate which is always fun in my books. And if that doesnt go to plan , we could just go and win the party award again.

SO getting there: I've concocted a dirt cheap way to get there (but requires Friday and Monday being taken off work for those who actually have 9-5 jobs)

so Friday: Train to tianjin, fly tianjin to kuala lumpur, fly KL to singapore ! - leave beijing around 6:00 amam get to singapore at 3:30 pm

and returning : leave at 9:00 pm , and arrive back in beijing the following morning for 7:05 am.

this is all for 1486 RMB as of yesterday !!!!!!!!!!!!! TAX INCLUDED !!! (+ train cost to get to tianjin, but i think thats like only 20 kuai round trip)

now thats a pretty good deal.

anyways, im not even sure if im going yet - but several people have exprsesed interest

aaron and his girlfriend andrea is going for sure, in fact aaron has told me "he would love to tear sh** up in singapore" ....of course he does , and i hope he means on the field and not anywhere else

Its still early but express your interest , opinions and grievances here !

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Hot or not?

Seen Saturday on the Frisbee golf course (hole No. 7) at Chaoyang Park:

If you throw it into the water, you'll be fetching (or fishing).

The night before, a celebration of Therese and Jim's birthdays:

Kro's Pizza and Alpha (club); the man in the middle arranged the surprise party for Therese.

Jeff was his usual leery self.

Jim was so happy he ended up in a tree.

And this:

All in all, a pretty great time, especially for those wearing matching shirts:

That's Charlotte with Helen and her husband, Mike. Which reminds me of something Charlotte wrote a while back:

a threesome with a christian and her husband or doc and a random asian would be quite fine.

She got her wish. I'm pretty sure Helen's Christian, though I may have made that up just now.
