WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Ascott Bar Games Triathlon results

The results are in from the first ever Ascott Bar Games Triathlon. Teams were divided into two pools, and each team faced a true round robin with its pool. A matchup was "won" if a team won two of three events: foosball, beer pong or pool.

Pool A Foos Pong Pool Overall
Ellen, Chris, Micah

1 3-0 2-1 1-0 3-0
Tim, Kirby, Tammy

2 2-1 0-2 0-2 1-2
BG, Leigh, Gareth,

3 Sandy, Josh L 1-2 3-0 1-1 2-1
Mike, Zach, Josh, J

4 Claire 0-3 1-1 1-0 0-3
Pool B Foos Pong Pool Overall
Marc M, Andy, Jud

1 Janelle 1-2 2-1 2-0 2-1
Kevin, Alicia, Joe,

2 Rob 3-0 1-1 1-1 2-1
Jim, Nina, Marc,

3 Alex 1-1 1-1 0-2 1-2
Toju, Tim, Tom

4 0-2 1-2 1-1 1-2

A few observations: Chris Boehner and Ellen were not beatable at foosball. The closest game was 10-5.

Baby Girl didn't lose at beer pong. It makes sense considering all the Thursday night beer pong tournaments he's gone to at Pyro's.

All the teams in Pool B were 1-1 going into the final matchup. Unfortunately, the two Frisbee teams eliminated each other.

Gareth's team eked into the semis in its final pool-play game, when it beat Kirby's team (both were 1-1).

Things then got out of hand as we played slap cup. Gareth, Sandy and Rob did not feel well the next night (Sandy was especially bad trying to get out of the cab). Lots of embassy folks made fools of themselves but, hey, it's a party and we're all friends!

WEEK IN REVIEW: Preparing for Singapore

Beijing Big Brother's sending a team to Singapore, and Ken Su will be representing the city as well on last year's defending champs, Mo'chi. Results, pictures and recap after the weekend, when I'll be on Singapore's free, unrestricted and fast hulianwang.

PICTURES OF THE WEEK:

GOOGLE GROUPS POST OF THE WEEK:

From Sandy Wang, Beach Ultimate/ Beach Volleyball, 9/14:

Hello,

For everyone who wasn't able to make it to Singapore this weekend, we have a great alternative.

Beach Ultimate! or Beach Volleyball!

The pools no longer have water, but the sand is open and plenty of space for 2 beach fields for ultimate. There are also 2 beach volleyball courts. Basically first come first served. If we get there around 11-12 and with a large group it'll be ok. There is no one there except for those playing beach volleyball. Its all open space. There is a space for soccer, but we can move the goals. There is 2 large areas we can set up for 2 courts.

So pull out your speedos and bikinis, buckets and spades, and bring a picnic for the day. You can buy drinks there (but pricey) and there is an area to wash off the sand.

*Where: *Chaoyang Park - Beach Park 沙滩娱乐园

*What:* RMB 30 for the whole day (if you pay at the park's main gate, when you purchase this ticket you do not need to pay the regular RMB5 park entrance fee).

*When: * this Saturday 11am.
*
*We can have a little beach tournament (4 on 4)if we have enough people. Let me know if you are interested, We already have enough people for one team.*

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Chengdu hat results

Gareth's team beat Bill/Tao's team twice on Sunday, both times on universe point. An EPIC final point in the finals resulted in five combined turnovers, including three from Bill's team. There was a hand block, a caught huck not-quite-for-score, a near-layout-D, etc. etc. It was pretty awesome.

Wish you could've been there.

Couple pictures from finals:

And afterwards:

Mythical Seven, or something

Winning team

Technically not from Sunday, but this was my team

Jim won the party award... again (Jim was actually the lone winner at Kunming, though the rest of Beijing's players helped him out). This after winning a skirt from the bar Saturday for beating everyone in limbo. Who could've guessed? Oh wait...

More pictures here (Chen Yangming), here, here, here, here (Dean Huang) and here (Ruth Yoder).

RETROSPECTIVE: What you didn't see from Ellen's party

You're not going to see a whole lot more, but here're a couple reasonably appropriate and non-demeaning pics that surfaced from Feb. 14:

WEEKEND ROUNDUP, part 1: Kevin's birthday party and The Redbucks

Happy... how old are you anyway? (At Crescent Moon, Xinjiang restaurant)

At 2 Kolegas.

We'll give you one guess as to who won the limbo contest. (It wasn't Therese, and not Joe, though someone who may or may not be his brother.)

Ellen's surprise birthday party last night

Usually I'd leave this for Weekend Roundup, but Kevin's bday dinner is tonight, with The Redbucks playing at 2 Kolegas afterwards, and pickup Sunday, so I'll have plenty to write about on Monday.

Last night a group of us surprised Ellen at her apartment with cooking and a cake. Organized by Alicia, HHH and Jim were cooking with Ellen when Jeff, Gareth, Sandy, Alicia and I showed up unexpected. Then Kevin, Ace and Joe, Baby Girl and Leigh showed up. (Who's Lee? Ask Baby Girl.)

Fun and games ensued, and delicious pasta dinner and Park Hyatt cake with ice cream.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: A bittersweet party for Beijing Ultimate

Barbie Reed

We'll have a tribute video up in the coming days, but for now these pictures of Barbie's going-away party will have to suffice. Also, Kevin's got a post up on his blog, and if you don't believe he and Therese were the most impressively dressed on the night (though Sandy and Baby Girl were impressive in their own way), go read what he had to do get ready

Pink Party 2009!

It was also Liz's last night in Beijing.

Lots of debauchery we can't write about in this space.
